Window profiles

What is a window profile?

The term "window profile" refers to the construction of a window – its frame and the internal structure of this, as well as the sash or fixed glazing. Windows are made from much more than just a solid piece of material. A modern, quality window from windows24.com can feature multiple internal chambers, for example, purpose-designed for excellent home insulation along with steel or carbon fibre reinforcements for stability, and watertight seals. Profiles also come in a range of depths. Height, width, and design adjustments can then also be easily configured in our online configurator – just head there today or read on to find out more.

Different window profile systems

Window and French door profiles come in many varieties and at windows24.com we offer them in five different materials – uPVC, uPVC-alu, wood, wood-alu, and aluminium. Which material or system the customer chooses depends on their exact functional building requirements and design preferences. We aim to offer as a wide a choice as possible.

uPVC

In terms of uPVC windows, at windows24.com we source our product profiles from two quality German manufacturers, aluplast and Kömmerling.

The exact make-up of the window's interior and its shape then differ depending on which of these brands is chosen and the model.

One of our most energy saving profiles, for example, is aluplast's energeto 8000 ED. The image shows a cut-through or section of its interior.

The profile has been purpose-designed for excellent energy performance and features insulating foam and air-trapping chambers as well as highly innovative carbon fibre reinforcements to achieve this and prevent heat from moving through the structure.

Wooden windows

Due to the solid natural material used to build them, standard profiles for wood windows are constructed differently to uPVC ones.

Here hydroplaning is used to achieve a particularly durable and smooth surface, while glued timber layers enhance sturdiness.

A range of sealing levels and glazing gaskets are then also added during manufacturing to ensure impressive watertightness and good thermal performance while a bonded rain rail aids drainage. As with uPVC windows, 5-year warrantees are also available for the product.

Aluminium, wood-alu, and uPVC-alu

In terms of aluminium casement window profiles, two renowned brands are on offer at windows24.com, Schüco and Aluprof. As aluminium oxidises if left untreated, the profiles are powder-coated and anodised to ensure high durability and quality frame surfaces.

Like a uPVC or wooden window, aluminium windows feature glazing beads to ensure excellent pressure between the seals and the glass. In some profiles, foam-filled insulation bars are also in place for particularly impressive thermal insulation values and energy efficiency.

Our other two materials for window profiles, wood-alu and uPVC-alu, feature a wooden or uPVC frame and sash core, often with the internal constructions described above. The frame's exterior then features robust, well-fixed aluminium cladding, which provides an extra layer of security as well as protection against harsh weather conditions.

Applying colour to profiles

Window profiles are not only about functional performance, they can also be flexibly finished and configured to add to home style and modern interior design. Wooden windows are coated in excellent primers and varnishes, for example, which finish the exact tone of the chosen timber. A range of RAL colours can also be selected from, just as they can be for an uPVC, aluminium, or clad window or French door.

From classic white, to timber-replica decors, or striking reds, colour is applied to window or French door profiles during manufacturing via professional processes. Finishes are added to a UPVC window frame, for example, with a foiling process under high temperatures. This makes for an UV and scratch resistant finish that will retain its vibrancy for years.

Optimising security and more

Window profiles can be configured and ordered with different openings, from tilt and turn to fixed. The product then comes with a range of quality fittings, like upper tilt scissors, mushroom pins and locking plates. To enhance the profile's security, an increased number of these fittings can be selected, for example, or a lockable handle and laminated safety glazing chosen. Further add-on features can then also complement windows. Protective external metal roller shutters can be chosen, for instance, and customised to match the window frame colour while adding glazing bars is another popular option.
