Alongside the windows and interior doors, the front door is the most important element of a house. It should be visually perfect, inviting and easy to clean but the most important quality factors of a front door are thermal insulation and security: because in the event of a break-in attempt, it must offer resistance. Whether made of aluminium, uPVC or wood, at windows24.com every external door becomes a special one-of-a-kind.
Configure nowMaximum design possibilities: Give your home a personal touch with the right external door
In the offer of windows24.com, you will find front doors and external doors made from uPVC, wood and aluminium from the manufacturers Schüco and aluplast, which you can configure according to your wishes and buy online. You are free to decide on the design, appearance, technology and material – for example, all-glass doors are also possible. In addition to personal taste, however, you should pay attention to other factors with your entrance door, e.g. its insulating properties. It should also be modern, secure and inexpensive in other words, it should offer quality and excellent value for money. Here you can find out which material is the best choice for you.

Thanks to the following three options, you can now make your entrance area even brighter and more space-saving. From the "Comfort" category onwards, you are offered the option of adding side panels or fanlights at the time of purchase. The side glass inserts open your hallway upwards, to the right, to the left or on both sides for additional light, the glazing corresponds to the glass in the entry door and usually offers privacy protection. Most exterior doors open inwards from the outside, but should you choose the "opening outwards" function, you will save space inside and secure your door against entry.

How do you actually take the measurements of a door? Taking measurements is actually easy – but how to do it is usually a matter of specialist know-how. If you don't know yet, you can find out in the "measuring" guide. Case number two – yourdesired model arrived today? Time for installation! Whether wooden doors, uPVC doors or aluminium front doors for your house entrance, the three sequences Measuring – Removing – Installing explain step by step how you can proceed yourself and even save yourself the trouble of hiring a professional fitter.
Maximum individuality and high-quality German brand components. The function of an external door is universal, yet you see entrance areas everywhere that are completely different in design. If an important requirement for your new front door is to be as personal and unique as possible, you will enjoy our configurator. : Whether aluminium, uPVC or wood, here you don't choose from an existing range, but design and order a premium product that is completely customised to your needs.
First, you need to choose a material for your new front door. uPVC is an affordable, low-maintenance material and even external doors with large dimensions can easily be used thanks to the low weight of the material. In comparison to other materials, PVC was said to be less secure in the past. This has changed considerably in the last years and PVC makes for a durable, resistant entrance door that is energy-efficient due to the good U-values of the material. To further increase the security level, all of our external PVC doors have steel-enforced door leaves and frames.
If you are renovating or prefer a classic design, an external wooden or timber door might fulfil your requirements. For the wood type, you can choose between the softwoods pine or larch or opt for the traditional oak door. The hardwood increases the durability of your external front door, however, it also influences the price because hardwoods grow more slowly and take longer to process. Unglazed external doors are sensitive to weather, for this reason, every external wood model from windows24.com is glazed. You can choose the colour tone for your glazed door to maintain the natural woodgrain, or pick a colour from the RAL colour selection. In the range of models, you can find anything from panel doors to cottage-style models to contemporary designs.
Modern front doors are often made of aluminium because the material combines high-security and door design. On windows24.com you can find eye-catching or plain models of front entrance doors. The most popular colour for an aluminium front door is anthracite but you can easily configure a white door or select a different colour from the RAL palette to match the windows of your home. The cool aluminium front door can even appear cosy thanks to several woodgrain finishes, like dark oak, golden oak or cherry. The aluminium entrance doors are powder-coated which makes the colours particularly long-lasting. You can even define different colours for the external and internal side so that the entrance door harmoniously integrates into the style of your interior as well as the façade of your house.
All of our doors are made to measure according to your exact dimensions. The width of the door leaf can be as wide as 1300 mm for a comfortable entrance. You can equip a single door with one or two sidelights or a fanlight. A sidelight allows additional light into your entrance area.
A high-quality external door must reliably protect the lives and property of its occupants from burglars. Here, unfortunately, "inexpensive" does not always equal "sufficient" – especially if you live in a high-risk residential area. All the savings are useless if one day you do fall victim to a burglary. The price of extensive protection pays off in the effectiveness of the defence because as we know, criminals tend to shy away where a lot of time and noise is necessary to get to their target.
Burglar-resistant entrance doors reliably protect your entrance and your home against burglary: laminated safety glass, for example, prevents the glass element from shattering. By default, all external door models with one or more glass inserts are triple-glazed. To prevent a break-in and unwanted entry into your home, security glass offers different solutions. If two sheets of glass are glued together with a special tear-proof foil, this is called laminated safety glass (LSG). This extra sheet can be added on the internal or external side of the door and makes breaking the glass insert more difficult for intruders. Other options include P4A glass.
Other security features are lever-out protection, which prevents the hinges from being tampered with, and a multi-point locking system that makes it much more difficult to "crack" the door compared to a simple lock. Our models already contain 3 to 5-fold locking systems as standard and thus achieve the police-recommended resistance class RC2.
However, windows on the ground floor or patio doors are popular points of entry for burglars. For this reason, you should also consider the security level of these elements to match your external door. Simple double-glazed doors can be an easy entry point if they are protected from view by a garden or hedge. An external front door might seem convenient but burglars are at risk to be spotted by attentive neighbours or pedestrians.
Give your entrance door an individual look now: smooth surface, classic impression, rustic or contemporary appearance – plain or colourful paint. A door frame and door sash in white lacquer always look neutral and inviting, anthracite, on the other hand, goes excellently with details made of stainless steel and aluminium, and red and yellow shades provide warmth. In addition to white (e.g. traffic white) and anthracite, there is also a huge selection of other RAL colours, wood decors like oak, structural designs and much more.
To match your windows, sliding doors and façade, you can choose e.g. silver grey, ruby red, fir green, brilliant blue or wood glazes. The latter imitate wood types like oak or cherry, a clear varnish, in turn, emphasises the natural grain. With many models, you can also colour the outside and inside as well as individual components of the door (e.g. frames and sash profiles) differently.
You can also achieve individuality by choosing unusual architectural styles. Particularly popular styles are traditional front doors in the country house style with glazing bars, which are also available in a wide range of colours.
The choice of material for a new external door is decisive for its qualities and disadvantages. To evade some of these downsides of the material, modern external doors are often made of a combination of materials, so-called composite doors. A building element is composite if the element is made of more than one material, for example, the panel is made of uPVC and the frame of wood. However, other combinations are considered to be composite: an external door with a glass insert (a window) is also called a composite element.
Besides the many glass models in different styles - from contemporary to classic cottage style – the complete range of doors on windows24.com features composite models. Our uPVC door lines are reinforced with steel in the panel and frame. The wood models we offer are built in the so-called sandwich design. Here, different materials are layered for ideal insulation and resistance in the panel. Steel supports the durability of premium wood like oak, and special thermal insulation cores decrease heat loss. Our alu models, on the other hand, rely on special foams in the door frame for their composite element. These foam fillings enhance the qualities of aluminium and ensure great U-values for external doors.

The front door configurator from windows24.com organises the diverse models and features of the front doors on offer. Here, with simple clicks, every requirement is added individually to the preferred product. Starting with the choice of material – which already influences the selection of models – through the colour to the direction of rotation of the front doors, individual doors are created here according to your ideas.
Some of the available models are also suitable as back doors. These, meanwhile, are displayed pictorially so that the visual characteristics are visible at all times and can be incorporated directly into the decision-making process.
A very important criterion when ordering front doors and back doors is the correct dimensions. Height and width must therefore be known exactly before they are entered in the corresponding fields. The values determine the overall dimension of the front door and can be seen from now on in the selection.
In the next step, you can select the type of glazing, e.g. safety glass and ornamental/structured glass. Further options such as a side panel and fanlight for additional light in the entrance area can be configured. Door hinges as well as safety locks and the front door handles can be specified.
The selected elements are displayed at all times, providing an overview of the front door's design and functions. Once the process is complete, a simple mouse click is all it takes to send off the order.
Any DIY homeowner can easily install the front doors themself. However, windows24.com will be happy to put you in touch with competent companies in the region if a professional is required for installation.
You still don't know which size – or height and width – to order for your entrance door, whether aluminium or PVC is the right material for it, whether it is better to open to the right or to the left, or which requirement a certain element of the construction meets? Or the configurator raises questions? Of course we will be happy to advise you personally on the phone (+49 711 860 60 200), via Live Chat or by e-mail (info@windows24.com). You will also find further information under the next points.
A good front door not only impresses with its attractive design but also with its excellent thermal insulation and reliable burglar resistance. Of course, all these factors also influence the price. The cheapest front door model available at windows24.com, for example, is a uPVC model which comes in at €769, whereas with an aluminium door this increases to €2,659. In addition to the material, the colour, size and features can then also contribute to the cost, but a high-quality front door is extremely long-lasting. Find the right front door prices for your budget.
The size of the door is a key factor in the overall cost. Smaller doors do not always have to be cheaper, especially if you regret the purchase a few years later because your hallway is far too dark. In order to provide additional light, glazed side sections are suitable in addition to front doors with glass cut-outs. A uPVC front door with a side panel is available from us from 2,704 €, for the same variant made of aluminium you pay from 3,608 € (all prices inc VAT). All side panels are by default triple glazed, if a higher resistance is required, every glass insert can be upgraded with security glass options. By the way, you don't have to worry about losing privacy, as ornamental glazing can also be used. Read more about the advantages of front doors with side panels and front doors with fanlights.
It is basically impossible to make a general statement about which material is best for front doors. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, which you should weigh up before buying. uPVC can score points with low prices and ease of care, and also has good insulating properties. Wooden doors, on the other hand, are a particularly sustainable solution and have a cosy appearance, but also require more maintenance in comparison. On windows24.com you can customize a softwood or hardwood door, choosing from the wood types pine, larch or oak. And aluminium is not only corrosion- and weather-resistant, but also impresses with its high stability. Learn more about the different front door materials.
You can order any front door from us made to measure. Simply enter the desired width and height in the configurator. The technically feasible minimum and maximum dimensions differ slightly depending on the material but are always displayed directly. However, if the building is to be designed barrier-free, house and flat entrance doors must have a clear width of at least 90 cm so that wheelchair users can pass comfortably. Configure your customised front doors online.
Measuring the wall opening for the front door is essentially similar for new buildings and renovations. Height and width are measured in two places and then the smaller nominal dimension is used. Subtract 10 mm from each side of the measurement to allow space for sealing. In new buildings, you must also take into account the planned floor structure. Use our step-by-step instructions for measuring the front door.
No, there are no standard sizes for front doors. You can configure front doors in completely individual sizes, depending on the installation situation and your personal requirements. If the wall opening is very large, for example, it may be worthwhile to install a door with a side panel. Conveniently design customised front doors online. The most common front door sizes.
