Sashes are encased by window frames, fitted into wall openings. They are usually the moveable part of the window that opens and closes.
Given advances in European window technology and for enhanced functional performance, our sash windows feature innovative German opening mechanisms that have moved away from classic Georgian sash windows. Thanks to our wide range of customisation options, the appearance of these vertically sliding windows can, however, still be achieved for those after a traditional style.
Unlike Georgian windows, our sash windows can feature a varied number of sashes next to one another. Windows with a single sash are available, for example, but so are those with two or three sashes. Multi-sash windows provide additional support and so are ideal for large dimensions and full glass fronts.
Differently to a traditional sash window, these structures allow customers to determine whether multiple sashes are separated by a central mullion. For those opting for multiple sashes that are not separated by a mullion, uninterrupted cinematic views out are guaranteed.
At windows24.com we work at the forefront of window innovation. Opening mechanisms are an important part of this thanks to their significant function. Rather than offering a sliding system, which can lead to reduced safety, difficult operation, and poorer insulation, our sash windows come fixed or with an innovative German tilt and turn, or tilt-only mechanism.
Particularly popular across central Europe, the tilt and turn mechanism is versatile. It allows the user to easily open the window ajar to a tilt position using the handle, for example.
This is a particularly secure position that ensures sufficient airing without allowing too much wind or cold to enter. If the user would rather let more air in or have an uninterrupted view out, the window can easily be set to the turn position by moving the handle. The window can then be swung open.
Our innovative sash windows operate smoothly for years and are highly secure thanks to quality fittings and multiple locking points from the renowned supplier, Winkhaus.
The tilt and turn system additionally allows for particularly easy cleaning. Assembly is also kept simple and safe thanks to our step-by-step measuring and installation guides.
At windows24.com sash windows are available in the following materials:
When comparing our different sash window materials in their most basic configuration, uPVC windows are the most affordable option. Impressive functional performance is, however, not compromised on. Thanks to their modern surface and expertly integrated chambers, uPVC sash windows offer some of the lowest u-values when it comes to energy efficiency and the amount of heat lost each hour per square metre.
Wooden sash windows, on the other hand, are a particular favourite among customers who are after a warmer, more traditional design and bespoke patterns.
Compared to uPVC sash windows, a wooden sash window also brings an enhanced sturdiness.
Further materials on offer include options with aluminium. This robust, weather-resistant metal makes for particularly durable and secure windows. In the case of uPVC-alu and wood-alu, these are composite profiles where aluminium cladding protects the exterior while the benefits of wooden or white uPVC sash windows remain on the inside.
With their large glass surfaces, the quality of the glazing used in our timber, aluminium, composite, or uPVC sash windows plays an important role in terms of the product's overall performance.
In their standard configuration, all our windows come with double glazing, featuring two glass panes.
This ensures good thermal insulation. For those after enhanced thermal efficiency, we then also offer triple glazing, which prevents better prevents energy loss via conduction with its three panes and thicker surface.
A further benefit of our sash windows, is that security can also be improved through the choice of glass.
Different toughened glass and safety glass options are available, for example, which increase impact-resistance and prevent panes from shattering out in sharp shards should the toughened glass happen to break under very high force.
Thanks to our wide range of customisation options, embracing modern sash windows does not mean having to part with the design of traditional sash windows. The elegant lines of Georgian sash windows or sliding sash windows can be retained, for example, by adding glazing bars in our configurator. White uPVC sash bars are available, for instance, but so are beautiful wooden ones, which create a traditional timber sash window look.
The number and position of bars can also be defined by the customer, as can the type. Beyond bars, a wide range of quality colours and authentic frame decors are also available to match, as are additional glass panel elements and roller shutters of various colours.
